AT THE CAYUGA VAULT

1100 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz

Billy Bright and Wayne "Chojo" Jacques first met at a festival in Florida in 2001, where they were performing with their respective bands. After many late night motel jams, and shared gigs over the next few years, Billy invited Chojo to record a CD with his 'Two High String Band' configuration. Their similar tastes for mandolin and fiddle music, as well as their complementary playing styles, create a powerful presentation of American roots and traditional string music. Billy first introduced audiences to his unique brand of acoustic music in the late 90's while attending the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston. Soon after Billy began touring extensively with Peter Rowan as the mandolinist in Peter'sTexas Trio. Later he became a permanent member of The Peter Rowan and Tony Rice Quartet. His excellent acoustic reputation has drawn the likes of David Grisman, Vassar Clements, Tony Trischka, Peter Rowan, Tony Rice, Yonder Mountain String Band and many others to record and/or perform with him. In 1973, Chojo started out playing guitar, fiddle, and mandolin with The Lost Highway Band, a country/ blues/ rock band that toured extensively, and recorded several albums. After touring off and on over the next several decades, he co-founded and performed with the Waybacks from 1999 - 2004. He continues his collaborations and performances with artists such as Slaid Cleaves, Fred Eaglesmith, Eliza Gilkyson, Keith Greeninger, Two High String Band, Houston Jones, The Devil Makes Three, Joe Craven, and many others.

THE LITTLE FOX THEATRE

2209 Broadway, Redwood City

As the name Mumbo Gumbo implies, there's original New Orleans' second line and rhythm and blues involved. But also, there is driving rockabilly, James Brown inspired funk, edgy blues rock, Afro-Cuban trance singalongs, and conga-line-inspiring rhumbas. The group's increasing stature is rooted in two distinctive traditions that are as old as the rock era itself: the journeyman roadwork ethic that produced the Beatles and the freeform dance party lifestyle that produced the Grateful Dead. Mumbo Gumbo have developed their musical craft the way few new bands are doing these days, through hard musical work, gig by gig, year by year. And they have developed a connection with their audience that comes from their over-arching desire to make sure that they leave their audiences dancing and smiling. With their 8th, and latest, album Wishbones plus a host of festival and concert gigs all around the Western U.S., the members of Mumbo Gumbo are realizing just how big their Americana musical stew has become in the melting pot of the new millenium. www.mumbogumbo.com

The Redwood City based Point of Order have been creating their unique music together since 2000 and performing at benefits as well as private parties throughout the Bay Area vocals, and kolohe (rascally) sense of humor.
