Houston Jones
High Octane Americana
Saturday January 5th, 8.00pm, $15adv/$17dr
AT THE CAYUGA VAULT

1100 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

Houston Jones, a quartet to sextet, featuring the stunning, left handed, upside down, acoustic and electric guitar playing of Glen Houston and the golden tenor of Travis Jones (guitar), plus the double bass and harmony vocals of Chris Kee and the percussion and harmony vocals of Peter Tucker. When the eclectic fiddle and mandolin of Chojo Jacques joins them they have 3 of the 4 original Waybacks on stage. In some shows the piano and accordian of Henry Salvia are also added. Though all the band members are resident in the Bay Area, they originate from all over the US and have about 180 years of collective professional music experience! Describing thier music as 'high energy Americana', they usually sizzle through a mix of blues, folk, country, bluegrass, Celtic, gospel, and jazz, mixing original material with the best from others. They now have 4 CDs out (three studio and one live) and two years ago stormed the main stage at the Strawberry Music Festival, where they were voted the best new band and Travis the best new vocalist. Last year they toured extensively, appearing at several major US and Canadian festivals. They are surpassingly good, great fun to see live, Fiddling Cricket favorites, and last played at the Cayuga in 2006. All 6 will be on stage this time and will be debuting material from their 4th CD, Calico Heart.www.houstonjones.com

Corinne West and The Posse
Singer-Songwriter of Passion
Saturday, January 19th, 8.00pm, $15adv/$17dr
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

Corinne West's voice is both sweet and powerful - almost violently so sometimes. She combines the richness of progressive folk with the backbone of hard country, and the nostalgia of American roots music. Having been on the road since 15 - busking on streets, performing in many varied ensembles - she is finally getting the attention she deserves. Her first solo CD Bound for the Living, got rave reviews from Sing Out! and other magazines, and earned her a tour of the UK when radio over there started playing it. Her second, just out, Second Sight is 100% homespun and emotionally powerful. She will be backed by The Posse - a rotating selection of expert pickers which, this time, will be James Nash and Joe Kyle, of the Waybacks. www.corinnewest.com

"strong and sincere delivery of intelligent and passionate songs..." - Island Folk Festival, Vancouver

"the most exciting country/folk/bluegrass body of work I have heard for a long time..." - Vanessa Salvia, Eugene Weekly

This concert marks the official debut of the Pop Top Trio, formed by well-known Bay Area musicians Sylvia Herold (guitar / vocals), Ed Johnson (guitar / vocals) and Chuck Ervin (double bass / vocals). The trio draws its far-flung repertoire from nearly a century of popular music - spanning the work of such varied artists as Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong, the Everly Brothers, the Beatles, Marvyn Gaye and Stevie Wonder, plus original material from Ed Johnson.

Ed Johnson, a veteran guitarist, vocalist, and arranger, as well as songwriter, is a master of many styles, from classical to rock, but it's his Brazilian tinged originals for which he is best known, touring regularly with his band Novo Tempo. His latest CD, The Other Road, is currently featured as Critics Pick of the Month on the syndicated radio show Sounds of Brazil. www.edbjohnson.com/

Sylvia Herold, guitarist and vocalist, is at home in folk, swing, pop, and Celtic genres, currently performing with the folk groups, Euphonia, and Wake the Dead. She recorded and toured with the swing vocal trio, Cats and Jammers, and the gypsy jazz band, The Hot Club of San Francisco. She has 3 solo CDs and has appeared on 15 others. Sylvia has appeared on many occasions for Fiddling Cricket. http://www.sylviaherold.com/

Chuck Ervin, a double bassist and vocalist, also performs with Euphonia and Wake the Dead, as well as with Bay Area jazz guitarist, Chris Grampp.
