Lorin Rowan and Doug Harman
Eclectic folk and progressive Americana
Nicole Reynolds Opens

Friday, February 12th, 8.00pm, $15/$17
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

Lorin Rowan has been playing music with his older brothers, Peter and Chris, since he was 12. Right out of high school in the early 70's he and Chris moved west from Boston and became "nearly famous" as an Everley Brothers style pop duo, produced by David Grisman and with Jerry Garcia playing with them. The three Rowan brothers recorded a number of country-rock/bluegrass albums together in the 80's, and Lorin often appeared as lead guitar in Peter's famous Free Mexican Air Force band. He also led an SF rock-reggae group called The Edge in the 80's.

As you can gather from this, Lorin is versatile! However, it is his singer-songwriting that really shines, especially with his ability to put this into the Americana and folk/rock genres and perform in unusual and appealing acoustic arrangements. His CD, Lorin Rowan Trio-Live, with Lorin on 12 string guitar and vocals, Doug Harman (cello and vocals) and Jeremy Cohen (violin and vocals), recorded at a small club in Ukiah, Ca, and featuring mostly original material, is an example of the very best of live acoustic eclectic folk music. Lorin's songs have been covered by a number of diverse artists (his song, "Soldiers of the Cross", was the title track for Ricky Skaggs Grammy winning CD a few years back). In this show Lorin and Doug will be featuring materials from Lorin's most recent CD, Rattlebox, and mixing styles from folk, rock, classical, reggae, country and Brazilian. http://lorinrowan.com/

Pennsylvania singer-songwriter, Nicole Reynolds, opens the show. Nicole has shared the stage with Dan Bern, Janis Ian, Tom Paxton, and The Waybacks, amongst many others, and tours the US and most of Europe. http://www.nicolereynoldsmusic.com/

Houston Jones
High Octane Americana
CD Release for Jericho Road

Saturday, February 20th, 8.00pm (Doors Open at 7.00pm), $15/$17
AT THE UGLY MUG CAFE

4640 Soquel Dr, Soquel, CA 95073,
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

Houston Jones is a California based high octane quintet featuring the stunning, left handed, upside down, acoustic and electric guitar playing of Glen Houston, the golden tenor of Travis Jones (guitar), the double bass and harmony vocals of Chris Kee, the percussion and harmony vocals of Peter Tucker, and the piano, accordion, and vocals of Henry Salvia. Formed in 2001, the band performs an original repertoire that ranges from bluegrass to folk to blues to gospel (plus a bit of jazz and Celtic!). Though all the band members are resident in the Bay Area, they originate from all over the US and have about 200 years of collective professional music experience! Increasingly they are featuring the songwriting of Chris Kee, as demonstrated in this CD release for Jericho Road. They have been a big hit at every festival they have played, including Telluride and Strawberry, where they were voted "best new discovery" and "best vocalist" . Fiddling Cricket has lost count of how many times they have played for us - and it's usually sold out!

"As good as any singing and picking I've heard in my 30 years in the music business" ….Bob Brown, owner Rancho Nicasio and manager of Huey Lewis and the News.

Asylum Street Spankers
Salvation & Sin Tour

Tuesday, February 23rd, 7:30pm $18/$20
<21 with parent

FC Cosponsored Show with
AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

This all new show brings both sides of the Spankers to the stage: the badass picking and singing side of the band is central to the first half of the show featuring stomping gospel music from the new album God’s Favorite Band; the second half explores the Spankers, um, shall we say, wilder side, with new songs about some of our favorite pastimes. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Say no more - this is a must see tour. "The decade-old band is a roots-rock riddle, nestled in a satirical Vaudeville enigma, packaged in an old-timey radio-show puzzle and slathered with hippie-fied mystery sauce." - Tampa Weekly Planet http://www.asylumstreetspankers.com

The Sherry Austin Band
Singer-songwriter; Americana
Saturday, February 27th, 8.00pm, $15/$17
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

Sherry Austin rightly calls her material pure Americana - a mixture of classic folk, country-folk, and folk-rock, and she sings only where it's comfortable - no screaming or stretching. Her compositions, and the covers she chooses, show off her warm contralto voice and fully engage the audience with her lyrical skills and clarity of delivery. This is augmented by her fine band and the soulful lead singing and harmonies of her singing partner, Sharon Allen. Sherry has several excellent CDs out, and Sharon has just released her first solo CD after about 30 years of performances. Both singers are huge Kate Wolf fans, performing much of Kate's material. Last year they developed a show entirely around this and, as well as performing it for Fiddling Cricket, were also invited to the Kate Wolf Festival to perform it.

"In her unassuming way, she is a much bigger talent than she gives herself credit for." - Brad Kava, SJ Mercury News
