Houston Jones are consistently the most popular group playing for Fiddling Cricket, and our association with them goes back a long way. Band members are Glen Houston (lead acoustic and electric guitar), Travis Jones (lead vocals and acoustic guitar), Chris Kee , (double bass, cello and harmony vocals), Peter Tucker (percussion and harmony vocals) and Henry Salvia (piano, accordion, and vocals).

Though all the band members are resident in the Bay Area, they originate from all over the US and have about 200 years of collective professional music experience! Describing their music as 'high octane Americana', they sizzle through a mix of blues, folk, country, bluegrass, Celtic, gospel and jazz, mixing original material with the best from others. Increasingly they are featuring the songwriting of Chris Kee, as demonstrated in their latest CDs, Calico Heart and Jericho Road. They have been a big hit at every festival they have ever played, including Telluride and Strawberry, where they were voted "best new discovery" and "best vocalist". http://www.houstonjones.com/

"As good as any singing and picking I've heard in my 30 years in the music business" - Bob Brown, owner Rancho Nicasio and manager of Huey Lewis and the News.

Nobody I know—and I mean nobody—has covered more ground and made more friends and sung more songs than the fellow you're about to meet right now. He's got a song and a friend for every mile behind him. Say hello to my good buddy, Ramblin' Jack Elliott . Johnny Cash , The Johnny Cash Television Show, 1969.

One of the last true links to the great folk traditions of this country, with over 40 albums under his belt, Ramblin' Jack Elliott is considered one of the country's legendary foundations of folk music. Long before every kid in America wanted to play guitar — before Elvis , Dylan, the Beatles or Led Zeppelin — Ramblin' Jack had picked it up and was passing it along. From Johnny Cash to Tom Waits , Beck to Bonnie Raitt , Ry Cooder to Bruce Springsteen , theGrateful Dead to The Rolling Stones , they all pay homage to Ramblin' Jack Elliott. In the tradition of roving troubadours Jack has carried the seeds and pollens of story and song for decades from one place to another, from one generation to the next. They are timeless songs that outlast whatever current musical fashion strikes today's fancy. http://www.ramblinjack.com

Acoustic Music Series At The Ugly Mug in Soquel
2nd and 4th Wednesday Every Month.
Food, Beer, and Coffee Available!

Michael Gaither, Steve Kritzer, and Mike Simpson

Wednesday, August 25th, 7:30pm (doors open at 7.00pm) $10
NO RESERVATIONS

AT THE UGLY MUG CAFE

4640 Soquel Dr, Soquel, CA 95073, call the Cafe at 831-477-1341
OR contact Fiddling Cricket at 831-475-4938 or Brundle@attglobal.net

Michael Gaither takes the "write what you know" idea to heart, wrapping acoustic guitar, harmonica, ukulele, and mandolin around stories of small town life, and humor. His love of animals and involvement with local animal rescue also work their way into his songs. Michael produces and hosts the Songs and Stories podcast, featuring interviews with other independent songwriters. Steve Kritzer divides his time between Northern California and Nashville, honing his writing and performing skills and producing recordings for others. He is a founding member of Blah Blah Woof Woof and several other groups in the past. Steve is equally at home on guitar, mandolin, or banjo, and though his solo style is rooted in the West Coast coffeehouse scene of the 60's, he is equally assured with bluegrass and Celtic. He tours regularly in Ireland and has 4 CDs to his name. Mike Simpson blends modern and traditional folk styles. He writes about love and loss, profound victories and aching sorrows, sending his songs out wrapped in a velvet voice and shining fingerstyle guitar lines. Other songwriter's material, and traditional old favorites, are placed in new settings, familiar but renewed.
