Peter Rowan is one of the major cult bluegrass artists of the ages winning a devoted, international fan base through his independent records and constant touring. What's funny about war, poverty, ignorance, bigotry, neo-conservatism, homophobia, greed, lust and fear? Ask Roy Zimmerman . He's been writing satirical songs for twenty years.
The Los Angeles Times says, "Zimmerman displays a lacerating wit and keen awareness of society's foibles that bring to mind a latter-day Tom Lehrer ."
Tom Lehrer himself says, "I congratulate Roy Zimmerman on reintroducing literacy to comedy songs. And the rhymes actually rhyme, they don't just 'rhyne.'"
Joni Mitchell says, "Roy's lyrics move beyond poetry and achieve perfection."http://www.royzimmerman.com

Fiddling Cricket Annual Holiday Party (no14?)
Good Friends, good cheer for the holiday season, prizes!
The Mighty Avalanche Choir; Jay Howlett and Rolfe Wyer; Ukulele Dick and Mona Lot

Saturday, December 18th, 7.00pm $15/$17

Join us for the 14th Fiddling Cricket Holiday Show, hosted, and anchored, as always, by The Mighty Avalanche Choir, led by Dale and Marilyn Barcellos. Dale and Marilyn have been partners in life and music since the 60's, leading a touring band for many years before "getting real jobs". For the last about 15 years they have led and performed with The Might Avalanche Choir (all white and going down hill fast!), who, according to their website (www.avalanchechoir.com), play adult alternative, folk, folk pop, and protest songs. This year they played the main stage at the Strawberry Music Festival, and you can see and hear them playing at a past FC Holiday Show in videos at their website. http://www.avalanchechoir.com/

Also on stage this year we will have Jay Howlett and Rolfe Wyer, and Rick McKee and Jayme Kelly Curtis masquerading as Ukulele Dick and Mona Lot!

Jay and Rolfe are well-known in the local folk community as part of Jay's trio, and in Blah Blah Woof Woof (www.blahblahwoofwoof.com). As a troubadour and award winning song writer, Jay tells stories about American Life as he finds it - sometimes funny, sometimes troubling. http://www.blahblahwoofwoof.com/jayhome.html http://www.blahblahwoofwoof.com/wyersound.html

Rick McKee and Jayme are fixtures on the Santa Cruz music scene, covering a wide range of music, and concocting special acts. As Ukulele Dick and Mona Lot they are perfect for this party, as they indulge in near-parody of pre-prohibition music through to disco, poking gentle fun at material they actually really love. Check them out at www.purrgirl/Ukulele. http://www.purrgirl.com/ http://www.ukuleledick.com

Carlos Reyes plus Peppino D' Agostino
From Paraguay and Italy, Harp and Guitar Masters Come Together

Thursday, December 30th, 7.30pm $15/$15
<21 with parent

FC Cosponsored Show with
AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Born in Paraguay, South America, Carlos Reyes --harpist and violinist-- has been breaking musical barriers since his first public performance at the age of five. His father, a musical and national hero in Paraguay, dared young Carlos to learn the complicated 36 string native Paraguayan harp. Being called a child prodigy at an early age he took his fathers challenge seriously, Carlos purchased his first harp for $50.00 when he was just ten years old. Two weeks later, he earned a double encore and $250.00 at his first professional harp concert. Since then he has taken the Harp and it's music to new and ground breaking levels. He made his debut on harp with the Oakland Symphony at just fourteen years of age. Carlos's first album, The Beauty of it All, was on the Top-Ten Contemporary Jazz charts in Billboard Magazine for over 15 weeks. http://www.carlosreyesmusic.com

Peppino D'Agostino doesn't just play the guitar. He composes, arranges, collaborates, improvises and has even been known to sing a song here and there in both English and Italian. But what he does create on the guitar makes the difference between simply playing and truly making music apparent in the most wonderful ways. D'Agostino has been hailed as “a guitarist's guitarist” by Acoustic Guitar magazine as well as “a giant of the acoustic guitar” (San Diego Reader), and holds many top guitar awards, but the San Francisco Chronicle encapsulated the essential difference that distinguishes D'Agostino's music when it dubbed him “a poet.” That poetic eloquence, grace and magic suffuses Nine White Kites , his first album of new compositions for the guitar in a decade. The set of 11 songs and two bonus tracks launches with the soaring fingerpicking of the title track, leading the listener through a tour de force showcase of D'Agostino's mastery and artistry. Carlos and Peppino will each play a set and then play together. http://www.peppinodagostino.com
