Dave Holodiloff is bringing the bluegrass band to Don Quixote's for his 8th Annual Jerry Garcia Bluegrass Birthday Bash Tribute Concert. The evening will feature a broad and danceable selection of songs (and acoustic jams) spanning Jerry Garcia's career with The Grateful Dead, Old and In The Way, and more. Get ready to ride that train with "Casey Jones" all the way to Bluegrass country! Driven by Dave's high-energy mandolin and accompanied by a smoking hot string band, this annual tradition is sure to delight both "dead-icated" fans of Jerry Garcia and lovers of quality acoustic entertainment. Don't miss this once-a-year magical night of festive celebration and Bluegrass tribute to one of the greatest musicians of all time! The band will be rocking the night away with two great sets, so get ready to party. Dave Holodiloff's "Grateful Dead Bluegrass Tribute" album will be available at the show. The CD features inventive arrangements of classic Grateful Dead favorites like "Friend Of The Devil" and "Scarlet Begonias" interspersed with original improvisations and even an acoustic Old-Timey psychedelic space jam on the more obscure "Mountains of the Moon". http://daveholodiloff.com

John Zipperer (from LA): A former TV actor and stuntman, John Zipperer's second chance came rolling down the highway of life, not on a carefully controlled movie or commercial set, but while changing a tire for a friend in Atlanta, GA. John was hit by a ten-wheel oil truck. After flying forty feet and landing in the hospital, John was told by the critical care doc, "You should be dead!" To John this seemed like a clear sign that life is, or could be, too short. He packed everything he owned into his 1976 Camaro and headed out to Los Angeles to pursue a life in music. It was ZipTime! John's clear voice, infectious melodies and heartfelt lyrics reach fans in places that they didn't know existed. Soon everyone is singing along, swaying, chair dancing, head bobbing, and clapping. Fans remark over and over about the joy that is evident when John is on stage delivering his unique blend of rock, folk, country and blues. - joy in playing, joy for their audience, joy from the audience. www.johnzipperer.com

Dan Frechette and Laurel Thomsen(local): Meeting via a chance YouTube sighting, and fueled by rare musical chemistry, eclectic Roots-Folk songwriters Dan Frechette, guitar/vocals, and Laurel Thomsen, violin/vocals, prove that musical magic is not only possible, but as described by the Monterey Herald, "a match made in heaven". Both powerful and magnetic talents, over the past five years this Canadian-American duo has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada, releasing two albums. They have played several times in our series. www.danandlaurel.ca

Taimane translates to diamond from Samoan and perfectly reflects the different facets of her nature. Whether delicately finger-picking through Bach or radically ripping through Led Zeppelin, Taimane has the ability to morph genres – from classical to rock to flamenco – and stretch her instrument far beyond the familiar melodies of Hawai`i, where she grew up. When Don Ho caught wind of the talented teen, he invited her to join him as part of his venerable variety show at the Waikiki Beachcomber, further fueling Taimane's desire to perform for and connect with audiences. In addition to performing her own distinctive versions of well-known pieces, Taimane weaves in original compositions that are as far ranging as her musical tastes. With the fierceness of a rocker, and the grace of a dancer, Taimane and her music are wowing ever-larger audiences. She lights up rooms wherever she goes, sparkling like the diamond that she is. Don't miss Hawaii ukulele virtuoso, Taimane, making her Santa Cruz County debut at Don Quixote's - part of Taimane's Western Winds Tour which kicks off when she joins Michael Franti on stage Thursday July 13th at iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. It's A Beautiful Day along with Santana are considered to be 2nd wave bands that emerged from the San Francisco bay area in the late sixties. Moreover, like Santana, IABD headlined at the Fillmore West prior to recording an album. Their debut 1968 LP the self titled It's A Beautiful Day was laced with classic cuts such as "White Bird", "Bombay Calling", "Wasted Union Blues" and "Time Is" The single off the LP "White Bird" quickly became part of the FM play lists and is considered a classic of rock music. www.davidlaflamme.com
