Fabulous vocalist, Molly Venter, one third of Red Molly, will be back in town for a special show, gracing our stage with husband and guitarist Eben Pariser, in their duo project, Goodnight Moonshine.

"few singers turn first time listeners into eternal fanatics as effortlessly as Molly Venter" says American Songwriting Magazine. Molly's trademark, the emotional potency of her voice, can change from a sweet moan to gritty shout and back, and is surrounded and supported by a landscape of harmonies and minimalist orchestrations conceived by Eben, on vocals and electric guitar. Venter's voice has caught the ear of industry giants, and been prominently featured on television, Apple Computers, and in Warner Brothers films. Willow Tree was a #1 hit on the folk charts in 2014 and was featured in USA Today.

Co-writing often, the couple uses the creative process to explore a healthy relationship and sing of grief and joy in equal measure; Molly gives smooth delivery to Eben's assertions while Eben gives form and focus to Molly's raw passion. Courageous unveiling, and depth, of experience make the collaboration between this married couple, and now parents, addictively captivating. In addition, in live shows they include a number of eclectic covers. Consummate performers, Molly and Eben have also appeared nationally and internationally, 100+ shows a year, with their respective bands Red Molly and Roosevelt Dime.

Molly and Eben visited us in January this year. It is an honor they want to return so soon. www.goodnightmoonshine

What do veteran performers of blues, jug band, jazz, and old time music do for fun? Why, form a band and wail on their favorite 1920s party music! The Todalo Shakers, from Seattle, Mendocino, and Berkeley, have been playing together sporadically for over 20 years, and are celebrating their 2019 release, Rock Away My Blues.

They specialize in vintage jug band party blues, rags and stomps which sound like they are lifted right out of 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee. Complex and soulful vocal arrangements create rich and funky harmonies, and a great feeling of camaraderie; the exuberance and fondness that the musicians feel for their material and for each other is unmistakable. Mix in hot ragtime tunes on fiddle and mandolin, and the party really gets going!

Band members are Suzy Thompson (from Berkeley), long known for her bluesy fiddling and powerful vocals (she is the fiddler of choice for Jim Kweskin & Geoff Muldaur, and Del Rey, and has also worked with Maria Muldaur, Dave Alvin and Peter Rowan); Eric Thompson (playing mostly mandolin here), who began exploring the country blues in the 1960s with Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions (with Jerry Garcia) and more recently in his work with such artists as David Nelson, and David Grisman; Guitarist/vocalist Frannie Leopold (Mendocino), who has toured and recorded the Delta Sisters and the Balkan Kafe Orchestra; and Bruce "WB" Reid (Seattle), who sings and plays a rare vintage 6-string banjo-guitar (affectionately known as "the enforcer"). WB spent part of his twenties hanging out in San Diego with bluesman Sam Chatmon, of the legendary string band the Mississippi Sheiks. WB has toured and recorded with the Tallboys (Seattle's hottest old-time string band), and with the Carolina Jug Stompers.

The Todalo Shakers partied with us last year and we are delighted to have them return for this CD Release show. www.ericandsuzy.com/todalo-shakers

Ernest Troost is an Emmy winning film and TV composer, as well as a singer-songwriter/guitarist who is a recipient of the prestigious Kerrville New Folk award. His songwriting style combines folk and Piedmont-blues-style guitar picking with evocative stories and colorful character portrayals-as though the Carter family, Robbie Robertson, and Alfred Hitchcock wrote songs together.

"Ernest has phenomenal guitar chops. His voice is uniquely his own, and free of affectation. His lyrics, though deep, are in a straightforward, everyday vernacular. Humble on stage and off, Ernest is the whole package."-Steve Dulson, Past-President, FAR-West

"Troost's style and subject matter recall Dylan, Dave Alvin, and Richard Thompson--enviable company indeed."-Tom Hyslop, Blues Revue Magazine

Locals, Patti Maxine (known as the Queen of Steel), and singer songwriter, Josh Lowe (of Josh Lowe and the Juncos) will open with a short set previewing their upcoming CD release. http://www.ernesttroost.com
