David Ross MacDonald
|

Best known as the drummer for the Australian folk group The Waifs, David Ross Macdonald revealed a different side of his musical persona on his 2003 debut solo album, Southern Crossing, a collection of original finger-style guitar instrumentals which was featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine. His most recent album Far From Here is a further revelation, showcasing his substantial skills as a singer-songwriter. It was selected in the Acoustic Guitar Magazines 'Best of 2004' reviewer's choice. |

Ray Bonneville

A one-man band of roots and
country blues, with guitar, harmonica, footboard percussion and vocals Montreal
based Ray Bonneville is a singer-songwriter with a percussive blues
guitar style that makes a rhythm section redundant. His arch-top guitar and
footboard percussion are augmented by smoky vocals mixed with outstanding rack
harmonica playing. His unique, roots influenced, country blues material and
riveting performance style capture new fans wherever he goes. Ray has played
all over the continent for 30 years, with “home” being Quebec,
Boston, New Orleans, Colorado, Seattle, Alaska, and for the last thirteen
years, Montreal. He's also well-known on the European circuit. Ray has 5 solo
CD's to his credit and appears on many others. His 3 rd CD, Gust of
Wind, won a 1999 Juno Award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy). His 4 th
, Rough Luck captures his work undiluted – live, one man, no

Marc Atkinson Trio

Gypsy Jazz Greats from
Canada The Marc Atkinson Trio is an acoustic guitar-driven trio from
Victoria, BC, Canada, and are not to be missed. This virtuostic group's success
has been leaping forward over the past couple of years. Acoustic Guitar
Magazine voted the trio's CD, The Marc Atkinson Trio II, one of the top
5 five CDs released in North America in 2002. The Trio released their 3rd album
in 2005. Warmly welcomed by folk, jazz and classical audiences alike, the group
recently received a standing ovation at the North American Folk Alliance
Conference and is a frequent performer at the acclaimed Festival International
de Jazz de Montreal. The Marc Atkinson trio plays at many major folk and jazz
festivals across North America. Marc, a Canadian instrumentalist/ composer/
arranger/ producer, is one of Canada's most talented musicians.

Bearfoot tore it up
at the Strawberry Music Festival this spring. The line to buy CDs was huge.
Hailing from Anchorage Alaska, Bearfoot is fast-rising on the acoustic music
scene. The band features a dynamic, entertaining stage show. Bearfoot is three
part vocal harmony, solid rhythm and soloing on mandolin and guitar, twin
fiddles, and acoustic bass. Their repertoire ranges from the band's original
contemporary acoustic songs to fast paced instrumentals to arrangements of
traditional tunes evoking the high lonesome sounds of Bill Monroe.
Bearfoot has a lively and engaging stage presence with an appeal that crosses
generations - from younger audiences to older and traditional bluegrass fans.
Bearfoot has toured extensively in the US, Canada and Ireland playing concerts
and festivals. In 2001, they won the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band
Competition, joining such other notable winners as The Dixie Chicks and
Nickel Creek, the later of whom they have been compared to for their

The Marc Atkinson
Trio is an acoustic guitar-driven group of JUNO nominated musicians from
Victoria, BC., featuring leader Atkinson (guitar), Joey Smith
(bass) and Chris Frye (rhythm guitar). The group performs original
music in a blend of jazz, folk, classical and world beat. Marc Atkinson, a
multi-instrumentalist /composer /arranger /producer, leads the group. His
original compositions take acoustic guitar to a refreshing new level, his music
is complex and challenging in its conception and delivery, but remains

CVD, from the Santa Barbara region of the California Coast were a hot bluegrass group originally, and then the original backing group for the legendary singer-songwriter, Kate Wolf, in the 70's. They are now in their 4th decade as a group and are instantly recognizable by their driving rhythm, layered and textured ballad presentation, unique acoustic arrangements and vocalization harmony (yep, that's just about everything!). Two of the original members are still in the group (Bill Griffin, mandolin, guitar and lead vocals) and Wally Barnick (bass and lead vocals). The third member of the trio is Mike Mullins (guitar, mandolin, lead vocals), a relative newcomer (about 11 years in), but a collaborator since way back. CVD have 7 albums to their credit and each member has also played in numerous other groups and on other recordings. Mike also has major songwriting credits. They perform a wide range of material from folk to bluegrass, The Eagles to the Grateful Dead, little known arcane delights, and originals from Mike - all with incredible harmony and superb instrumental arrangements. They are, perhaps, the Fiddling Cricket audience's favorite group and if they lived closer would surely be our very own house band. As CVD they play strictly for enjoyment these days, and only a few times a year in places they really like. Fortunately they seem to like us quite a bit, and now, with our move to the Cayuga Vault, they will be playing Santa Cruz for the first time in about 10 years. www.myspace.com/cachevalleydrifters |

Villela's and Ricardo Peixoto's synergetic performances,

Incendio in both Italian and Spanish means "fire" and this moniker is fitting for a musical group whose sound is all about energy, exploration, and passion. At the heart of Incendio's sound is the Latin or Spanish guitar which can conjure up romantic as well as powerful and bold images. Ian Tyson

The influential folk duo, Ian and Sylvia, married in 1964, recorded over a dozen timeless albums, including their best known and often covered hits - Ian's "Four Strong Winds and Someday Soon" , and Sylvia's "You Were On My Mind" . Ian & Sylvia pioneered the Canadian and American country-rock movement with their band Great Speckled Bird. Ian left music to become a cowboy and rancher. Several years into life as a cowboy, Ian recorded "Old Corrals"and "Sagebrush", original and traditional songs of the West. Now, Stony Plain releases Songs from the Gravel Road, Ian Tyson 's first CD of new songs since 1999's Lost Herd.
