6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294Corrine West & Kelly Joe Phelps play as a duo Corinne Wests music doesnt really fit in any genre box. Its elegant new sexy acoustic jazz-rock-folk. Its west coast acoustic-soul music. By any name, her music is absolutely compelling both in the strength of her writing and the expressive power of her voice. Her new CD is The Promise: "Its a stirring body of work, by turns haunting, gripping and moving and all wrapped around Corinnes distinctive smoky vocals." Tim Hughes, Oxford Mail , UK . www.corinnewest.com
Steve Earle on Kelly Joe: "Kelly Joe Phelps plays, sings, and writes the blues. HOLD UP before you lock that in - forget about songs in a twelve bar three chord progression with a two line repeat and answer rhyme structure - though he can certainly do that when he wants to. I'm talking about a feeling, a smoky, lonesome, painful - yet somehow comforting groove that lets you know that you are not alone.
Tim OBrien on Kelly Joe: "When I heard Kelly Joe the first time, I was amazed how it all made so much sense. His music is a wide world with three hundred and sixty degrees of influence.... Kelly Joe is a musical slight of hand master. He pulls world wide sounds out of his guitar." - even when you're blue. Play on brother." www.kellyjoephelps.net

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294Vicki Genfan: Perhaps Vicki's most celebrated award came in the form of first prize in the 2008 Guitar Player Magazine's 'Guitar Superstar' competition. Judged by guitar idols, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, here's what Jim Fusilli of the Wall Street Journal had to say about her win: "It's a stunning victory, a barrier shattered. Guitar Player is a male-dominated domain -- the only photo of a woman musician at work in the current issue is a microscopic shot of bassist Rachel Haden with her back to the camera. The magazine is often a tribute to speed, power, volume and gear. Ms. Genfan plays an acoustic guitar without effects." Vicki has been recognized among the worlds greatest guitarists and musicians at festivals such as The International Montreal Jazz Festival and Germany s Open Strings Guitar Festival. http://www.vickigenfan.com
Jill Knight: Knights soulful sound is unmistakable. India Arie once quoted, "I love great voices and when I heard Jill sing it stopped me in my tracks, and I had to listen." She later asked Knight to be her opening act. Jill was a finalist at the Telluride Troubadour competition the National Academy of Songwriters "Songwriter of the Year" competition and Billboard magazines, "best unsigned band" contest. http://www.myspace.com/jillknight
Erika Luckett: Erika Luckett creates a powerful expression of world-inspired music. Poetic and rich, her voice conveys lyrical depth, and her fiery, innovative guitar playing creates an orchestra of sound with only six strings. Growing up in a fluid current of culture, savoring the richness of the Amazon, the urban rhythms of Sao Paulo and the percolating warmth of the Caribbean gave Erika an early appreciation for the interconnectedness of people and cultures. http://www.erikaluckett.com

She has a beautiful voice, sometimes powerful, sometimes fragile and vulnerable, and her lyrics skillfully both empathize with listeners, and startle them into contemplating their own lives. http://www.anniemoscow.com/

Kings of Mongrel Folk
Seattle based Mark Graham and Orville Johnson are widely respected as individual roots musicians who, for the last 13 years, have also teamed up as The Kings of Mongrel Folk, to bring to the world a strange and wonderful mixture of virtuoso harmonica and clarinet, soulful blues, hot guitar pickin', sweet country vocals, and, perhaps best known, wry humor. Mark's harmonica and clarinet are well known to fans of Kevin Burke's Open House and his sardonic skewering of contemporary life in such classics as "I see your Aura and it's ugly" and "Zen Gospel singing" have been cult classics for years. Orville's guitar, slide playing, dobro, and powerful blues vocals have seasoned over 100 recordings, soundtracks and commercials. He currently tours in a duo with Laura Love. Both Mark and Orville have appeared on "A Prairie Home Companion" Together they truly are The Kings of Mongrel Folk and we welcome them back for another visit to Fiddling Cricket from their Kingdom of Mongrolia (actually Seattle). http://www.mongrelfolk.com

This folk duo has taken, according to them, "years of careful indecision" to come up with their eclectic and bizarre mix of Celtic, swing, blues, country and originals (which are sometimes hilarious and sometimes extremely poignant). In addition to outstanding songwriting, singing and showmanship, they also play a number of instruments very well, and even yodel sometimes. Always an absolute treat, and, I personally concur with the WFMT quote below. http://www.smallpotatoesmusic.com/
"One of the most polished, inventive, and entertaining shows on the circuit " - Dirty Linen
" Prezioso's song "1000 Candles, 1000 Cranes" is one of the most outstanding songs of the past 50 years." -Rich Warren, The Midnight Special,WFMT Radio, Chicago, IL

Patterson is THE Dennis of Dennis and the Sharks a well known and long time Santa Cruz favorite. Chris Webster and Nina Gerber
Wonderful Voice; Superb Guitar
Special Sunday Show
Sunday, March 28th, 7.00pm, $15/$17
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.
2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.netChris Webster's voice has those ineffable qualities of vocal grain, emotional nuance, timing and phrasing, and warmth which characterize truly great and moving singers in any style. As part of the Webster Sisters she has played for Fiddling Cricket several times in the past, with sister Cassie, guitarist Scott Nygaard, and bassist Cindy Brown, performing mostly folk material. In this special show she will cover a wider range of material, including her own as a songwriter, accompanied by the fabulous guitar work of Nina Gerber.http://www.chriswebstermusic.com/
" each note she sings conveys a probing, acute, sensitivity to the little complications in life and love, with a sexy edge to boot" - No Depression Magazine
After originally coming to prominence as accompanist to Kate Wolf, Nina Gerber spent two decades as "guitarist of choice" for recordings and performances with a huge number of folk performers, as well becoming a respected producer and arranger. During this time, though she never sought the limelight and never appeared as the main artist on a record cover, she earned a devoted following from those who truly listened. She always emphasizes taste over technical skill (which she has in abundance), providing a soulful enhancement to the music she is accompanying. Finally, after appearing on, or producing, over 60 albums, she recently has made her first two solo CDs. http://www.ninagerber.com/
