Robin Nolan has established himself as one of world's leading Gypsy Jazz guitarists, and also set himself apart by creating his own unique style. Born in 1968, in Vietnam, to musical parents, he first picked up a guitar at 6, in Hong Kong, which proved to be the start of a musical journey taking him through blues and jazz, before arriving at his passion for the Gypsy swing of Django Reinhardt. Since his move to Amsterdam in 1992, Robin has gained ever increasing success, not only in the jazz and festival and concert hall circuit, but has also received high praise from the likes of Willie Nelson, Bill Wyman, and George Harrison. Today the Trio tours regularly worldwide, continuing to give their exciting and unique take on Django's music. We are certainly fortunate to be able to present Robin in the intimate setting of the café.www.robinnolan.com

" In these days of 'cackophony' - its good to hear some 'proper' music!" - George Harrison

Lost Coast with Blind Willies
Bluegrass and beyond / singer-songwriter
Saturday, June 9th, 8.00pm $15/$17
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, Lost Coast is a youthful band that is electrifying California Bluegrass and beyond. A Lost Coast show combines precise, dynamic arrangements of fierce bluegrass instrumentals with powerful vocal harmonies. Their high energy shows, enjoyed at festivals throughout the western United States, reflect their passion for traditional bluegrass music of the past, while fresh arrangements create a sound all their own. Lost Coast captured first prize in the 2006 National Bluegrass Playoffs at the Huck Finn Jubilee in Victorville, California. The band consists of Tom Lucas (banjo), Jacob Groopman (guitar), Hide Kawatsure (mandolin), Annie Staninec (fiddle), and Andrew Conklin (bass). Perhaps the reason for their freshness is that all the members also perform in other groups playing other types of music. http://www.lostcoastbluegrass.net/index.cfm

Blind Willies is Alexei Wajchman (guitar, singer-songwriter), and Annie Staninec (multi-genre fiddler) - yes the same Annie as above. Blind Willies debuted 3 years ago in SF’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. Annie tours on the bluegrass circuit, but also has been featured fiddler with David Grisman, and has received Djangofest Northwest’s award for exceptional young artist. Alexei taught himself guitar in his teens, after playing clarinet and sax. He received a scholarship award to study guitar and voice in 2002/3. His music is an exploration of the American psycho/social landscape. Blind Willies first CD, Unkindness of Ravens, released last year, is getting good airplay on radios across the country, particularly in the Bay Area.http://www.blindwillies.net/

Chris Webster
Sunday, June 17th, 7.00pm $12 adv./$14 door
under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

On the heals of her successful and very well received Valentines Day concert at Don Quixote's, Chris Webster is back by popular demand. Chris Webster's new album Something in the Water is now available in stores. Get to know Chris Webster, one of two lead singer-songwriters for Davis , CA band Mumbo Gumbo . Drive, Chris's first solo foray, is an exceptional project that received a great deal of radio airplay during it's release. The songs produced on that record span a range of emotions by effectively pulling from a variety of American music forms. Chris instinctively knows when to lean blues, zydeco, torch or even a little jazz - it's American music through and through.www.chriswebstermusic.com

We suggest Davis singer-songwriter Chris Webster's Something in the Water. She comes highly Raitt-ed, but this velvet voice is all her own. Hard to say just what it is about the lovely lope of “Out Here in the Real World” that brings the tears to your eyes. The integrity, maybe? Between that one, the handsome cover (with Jackie Greene) of Curtis Mayfield's “People Get Ready,” and, well, all the other tracks, Webster shows warmth, grace and range. She's a class act." -The Sacramento News& Review

Les Barker
British Poet and Parodist
Saturday, June 23rd 8.00pm $15/$17
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

Les Barker returns to the Fiddling Cricket stage - our only non-music show -after another two year gap. Described by Dirty Linen as "maybe the best writer of parody and wordplay the English speaking folk world has heard" his 60 or so slim volumes sell in large numbers because people can't quite believe what they have just heard. His poems and doggerel have spawned many folk heroes: Jason and the Arguments, Spot of the Antarctic, Cosmo the Fairly Accurate Knife Thrower, and Captain Indecisive, to name but a few. He has numerous solo CDs, with titles like Up the Creek without a Poodle, Guide Cats for the Blind, and recently, The War on Terrier. His work has also been set to music with the help of the cream of the UK folk scene and he has written a serious work, the folk opera The Stones of Callonish. During his last tour in the US he was more or less banished from the stage in some of our southern states, following complaints that several of his pieces are "anti-American". The fact that he still obtained a visa and work permit for this tour says something good for American democracy I guess. If you would like to hear his advice to Mr Bush ( now 3 years old, but still relevant) go to his website, http://www.mrsackroyd.com. Les travels worldwide and is a regular at major folk festivals, which he prefers to comedy events. He's very hard to describe, but there is only one of him, so come see him (and buy a book).

Stevie Coyle & Walter Strauss
Wednesday, June 27th, 8.00pm $8 adv./ $10 door
under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Stevie Coyle is up front and center playing for the Waybacks . Besides singin' and writin' songs Stevie is an accomplished rhythm & fingerstyle guitarist and, to top it off, was a stand up comedian playing the major comedy rooms. Stevie learned how to play the guitar by listening to old Ventures albums, and taught himself to fingerpick while touring the U.S. with The Royal Lichtenstein Circus. Once he shook some of the sawdust out of his shoes, he took gigs emceeing killer whale shows, playing with various acoustic bands and performing on stage and screen in the San Francisco bay area. http://www.waybacks.com/bio.html

Walter Strauss is an outstanding finger-style guitarist whose fiery technique conjures several instruments playing at once. While rooted in American folk forms, his music evokes far reaches of the globe as well - he's worked with musicians from West Africa to Australia and Finland , and he has fused these influences in his work. Walter's songs are romantic yet edgy, filled with intelligent and vivid imagery. He has performed throughout the US , Canada , and Ireland , alongside musicians ranging from Grammy nominated kora master, Mamadou Diabate, to eclectic folksters The Burns Sisters and fiddle legend Vassar Clements. Check him out at www.walterstrauss.com .
