Kate Lamont

AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050

CANCELLED

Kate Lamont's beautiful, soulful, and evocative vocals are backed by the guitar, dobro, percussion of Joshua Strodtman with Kate herself taken a turn on ukelele and piano. There are touches of bluegrass and mountain music, but also surreal soundscapes and touches of European chamber music and of Asia and Africa. Their CD, Slow Pace Quickening which has an expanded band including fiddle, cello, nass and banjo, is both outstanding and outstandingly recorded. It fits no format I know of and crosses many boundaries. http://www.blueprintmusic.com/

Connie Doolan Quartet
Standards, Swing, Celtic, Folk, and Contemporary

AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050

Connie Doolan has appeared for Fiddling Cricket many times. With classical, jazz, and musical theater training, teaching and playing have always been Connie's living. As one of the principal vocalists of The Mighty Avalanche Choir, her beautiful soprano was heard in folk and Celtic arrangements for several years at the FC Annual Holiday Party. Later she also appeared in the group, Mehitabel, (with Sylvia Herold of Cats and Jammers and Patrice Haan from Leftover Dreams). Over the last two years, Connie has concentrated on her own group, presenting a wide range of material from standards to folk, releasing her debut CD, Haunt Your Heart, in 2006. It features beautifully arranged renditions of material ranging from Tom Waits to bluesy versions of traditional American and Irish songs, to favorite jazz standards, swing, folk, and quirky pop hits. Accompanying and augmenting Connie's vocals will be the entirely elegant and lyrical playing of Julian Smedley on violin and viola (formerly of The Hot Club of San Francisco), Mike Wallenberg on jazz guitar and Steven Strauss on upright bass and ukulele, just as they do on the CD. http://conniedoolanquartet.blogspot.com

Mark Graham and Orville Johnson: Kings of Mongrel Folk
Multi-Instrument, Roots, Folk, Blues, Humor
Saturday, November 15th, 8pm $15/$17
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

Seattle based Mark Graham and Orville Johnson are widely respected as individual roots musicians who, for the last 13 years, have also teamed up as The Kings of Mongrel Folk, to bring to the world a strange and wonderful mixture of virtuoso harmonica and clarinet, soulful blues, hot guitar pickin', sweet country vocals, and, perhaps best known, wry humor. Mark's harmonica and clarinet are well known to fans of Kevin Burke's Open House and his sardonic skewering of contemporary life in such classics as "I see your Aura and it's ugly" and "Zen Gospel singing" have been cult classics for years. Orville's guitar, slide playing, dobro, and powerful blues vocals have seasoned over 100 recordings, soundtracks and commercials. Together they truly are The Kings of Mongrel Folk and we welcome them back after several years for another visit to Fiddling Cricket from their Kingdom of Mongrolia (actually Seattle). http://www.mongrelfolk.com/castle.html

Broceliande
Medieval, Renaissance & Celtic Music
Saturday, November 22nd, 8.00pm $15/$17
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050

Broceliande, a quartet involving Celtic harp, cello, guitar, mandola, flutes, recorders, harmonica, whistle, melodeon, percussion, and voices, have a repertoire ranging from lively Celtic and medieval dances to haunting harp based ballads and a cappella madrigals. Featuring stellar vocals, their entrancing sound is built on the interweaving of up to four part vocals with lyrical instrumental accompaniment. They have several CDs available, including The Starlit Jewel, which features songs from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. The members of the group, Margaret Davis, Karl Franzen, Kristoph Klover, and Kris Yenney all perform in other settings, in addition to Broceliande, ranging through opera, string quartets, Celtic bands, jazz, folk groups and progressive electric bands! Last year when Broceliande played for Fiddling Cricket we sold out, so book early!
