Acoustic stalwarts, Matt Flinner (mandolin) and Scott Nygaard (guitar), join forces with rising young star, Sam Bevan (double bass) for a wonderful evening of acoustic music. Flinner is a former national mandolin and banjo champion, with 3 solo albums on Compass Records. Nygaard has been a leading guitarist in the "new" bluegrass and acoustic music movement for 2 decades, with several CDs on the Rounder label. Bevan, formerly with the David Grisman Quintet, is an astounding acoustic bassist, but also a unique composer. Together these 3 virtuosos create a tapestry of original and roots acoustic music.

A descendant of Cornish tin miners, who sang in the mines, Rita grew up with a deep regard for folk music and the emotional power of the voice. Two quotes about Rita get to the heart of it:
" From the time I first heard Rita sing, her voice grabbed me and did not let go .from a deep place of raw and powerful emotion" - Joe Craven, musician
"One of those imperfect voices necessary to do folk music right. An overtrained or flawless vibrato can ruin a good tune about broken lives Hosking keeps it beautifully raw and real in the tradition of Emmylou Harris or Lucinda Williams. Her bluegrass-tinged performances hearken back to the best of American music, without mimicking the greats" - Adrienne van der Valk, the Eugene Weekly.
Cousin Jack, Rita's band (fiddle, bass, guitar, banjo), provides close harmony and strong backup, rounding out a sound rooted firmly in traditional music.

In the now distant past his diverse tastes, flat-picking and fingerstyle playing, and his considerable vocal skills, led him to play in country, bluegrass, blues, jazz and rock bands, but since 1995 he has concentrated on the bluegrass and roots areas. That year he joined the Claire Lynch and the Front Porch String Band, touring and recording with them till 1999. For several years after that he played with bassist Missy Raines, recording two CDs with her. He has just released his 3rd solo CD, Box of Chocolates. He has recorded with many other well-known artists and has won many national, state and regional instrument championships, as well as singing ones (traditional, old-time and gospel). The concert follows a workshop in the afternoon at Gryphon String Instruments.
"One of the most versatile and tasteful guitar players I know accompanying this instrumental virtuosity is a rich and expressive voice with a surprising range..." - Mark Schatz, musician
